My Favorite 5K

That title contains a bizarre combination of words!

“My” as in Adriana’s.

“Favorite” as in preferred.

“5K” as in the activity from the depths of hell because only of pure evil would this torture have sprung.

Yes, I actually have a favorite 5K but it has absolutely nothing to do with the physical act of running. What made the “70s Old School 5K” my favorite run was the call for people to run in costume.

Now we’re talking!

That got my creative juices flowing. I knew immediately what our costumes were going to be. My poor husband was a reluctant participant as he so often is with my shenanigans. It was an easy choice because I spent most of my childhood dreaming of a catastrophic accident that would necessitate the bionic replacement of both my legs, my right arm, and the labyrinth of my right inner ear. I wanted to be Jaime Sommers or, at the very least, to change my name to Lindsay.

I started my project a month in advance. It was ridiculously fun and satisfying:

I was very proud of the results, then my husband stressed me out when he said he might get reported as a suicide bomber. In this day and age, that is no joke.

The best part wasn’t even the costumes. It was the video from the race that my son edited, giving it the 70s treatment (and recently edited again to protect my husband’s identity):

Even if I never got to be bionic in reality, my son made a dream come true for the 10 year old in me!

Still, I don’t think the Bionic Woman ever felt like this after a race!
